The lips are paired horizontal skin-muscle folds surrounding the entrance to the oral cavity on the face of humans and some animal species. The lips help us grasp and hold food as we bring it to our mouths; they are involved in the process of speech; and they help us express emotions through facial expressions, such as smiles, smirks, kisses, and grimaces. The lips are also the most sensitive part of the body. The number of nerve endings here is a hundred times greater than at the tips of the fingers. Experts believe that with the right skills from their partner, women can reach orgasm during a kiss.
In this article, we will talk about drawing lips! Biologically speaking, lips consist of a skin-muscle fold, and their shape is determined by the circular muscle bundles that surround the mouth. The size of the lips depends on the volume of muscle and connective fibers, and genetic factors also influence lip thickness. Africans have the fullest lips, while Europeans have fairly thin lips.
The structure of the lips
The color of your lips depends on the condition of your blood vessels; the higher your hemoglobin level, the redder your lips. The high transparency of the mucous membrane of the lips and the close proximity of blood vessels give your lips their color. An interesting feature is that even today, the Mursi, Chai, and Tirma tribes still have a tradition of stretching women’s lips with clay plates. It is considered a feat of skill if a woman can insert two plates into her upper and lower lips so that her mouth resembles a beak. The exact reason why this custom originated is unknown.
There are people with paralyzed lips, a condition called Bell’s palsy. It causes damage to the facial nerves, and the person appears either happy or sad, depending on the position of their lips when Bell’s palsy strikes.
Our beloved Marilyn Monroe appeared before the public in movies and on magazine covers with bright, plump lips that drove hundreds of men crazy. However, Norma Mortenson’s (her real name) natural lips were not so beautiful in shape; the lips themselves were thin, and they became seductive with the help of skillful makeup.
Another interesting detail is that men are very attracted to red lipstick on women’s lips. According to research, waitresses who wear red lipstick always receive more tips. And most people, both men and women, consider Angelina Jolie’s lips to be the sexiest. Over 10% of women who undergo lip surgery ask to have lips like hers.
Let’s get started on drawing our lips right away!
How to draw a lips easy
Step 1
The first step in drawing lips is to draw two lines, one vertical and one horizontal, intersecting in the center!
Step 2
Next, draw small curves on the vertical line as shown in the picture!
Step 3
Draw a curve at the intersection of the two lines!
Step 4
Draw the upper lip by connecting the curves of the upper lines!
Step 5
We also connect the lower lines to form the frame of the lips!
Step 6
In this step, we draw two semicircles. This will be the basis for applying shadows!
Step 7
From above, below, and on the sides, we draw auxiliary elements to display shadows, as we need to highlight the volume of the lips in the center of the picture!
Step 8
At this stage, we draw the central dividing part of the lips with a bold pencil color!
Step 9
Apply shading to the upper part of the lips, starting from the left!
Step 10
Apply hatching on the right side as well!
Step 11
Start shading the lower part of the lips around the semicircles on the lower lip!
Step 12
Finish shading around the half circles on the lower lip!
Step 13
Next, on the left side in the center above the lip line, darken it even more with shading!
Step 14
We do the same thing to the right of the center where the lips meet, with a darker shade!
Step 15
Starting from the left side of the upper lip, apply a second layer of dark shading!
Step 16
Do the same on the bottom side (without touching the semi-ovals)!
Step 17
Step 18
At this stage, lightly shade the light semi-ovals that we haven’t touched before!
Step 19
Continue hatching the semi-ovals, reducing their size!
Step 20
Finish drawing, leaving a small part of the semi-ovals untouched!
