How to draw a pony step by step

How to draw a pony in a colorful version will be explained in this article! Ponies are horses of small breeds. Small horses (80–140 cm tall) have been bred on islands (the British Isles, Iceland, Sicily, Corsica, Gotland, and Hokkaido). The term “pony” is generally applied to horses of the Shetland, Welsh, Scottish, Icelandic, Falabella, and American Miniature breeds. The term “pony” includes horses with a withers height of 100–110 cm or less, although some horses of the aforementioned breeds can be much taller. Abroad, the height classification for ponies differs: in Germany, the term applies to horses with a height at the withers of up to 120 cm or less, while in England, it applies to those up to 147.3 cm. By English standards, half of the world’s horse breeds.

The smallest ponies don’t even reach 1 m at the withers, while the tallest are still under 15 palms. Most ponies are classified as half-blood breeds, although they could just as easily be considered cold-blooded or warm-blooded. So what exactly are cold-blooded and warm-blooded horses? Warmbloods are descendants of Arabian and Berber horses. They are best adapted to—or, at least, were originally developed for—warm or hot climates. As a rule, they can be ridden or used in harness, although they are not suited for carrying heavy loads.

Drawing a pony isn’t easy—especially when you want it to look really nice! Larger breeds, which were developed in Europe and other northern climates, are known as cold-blooded breeds. They are much more massive and powerful than warm-blooded horses, weighing up to 670 kg, with some individuals approaching a metric ton in live weight.

They don’t even come close to having the speed of fast-paced breeds, and they are seldom ridden, but they possess much greater working abilities. Some breeds live in a semi-wild state. Among these breeds is the ancient Icelandic horse, which is hardy enough to withstand the harsh conditions of year-round grazing in its natural habitat. The Icelandic horse is essentially a pony with a withers height of 12–14 palms. The ponies of Sable Island in Nova Scotia (Canada) are also semi-wild. This breed apparently traces its origins to a herd of horses brought to the barren Sable Island in the 18th century.

Australia has no native breeds of horses or ponies, so the development of new breeds in the country depended on the importation of horses from other countries. The first horses and ponies were brought to Australia aboard the ship Fest Fleet, which arrived in Sydney in 1788 from South Africa. In 1803, the hardy Timor pony from Indonesia began to be imported into the country, forming the basis for a new pony breed that has undergone many different influences over the years of breeding.

The breed was most strongly influenced by Welsh Mountain ponies, Hackneys, Arabians, small English Thoroughbreds, Timor ponies, Shetland ponies, Scottish Highland ponies, and Irish Connemara ponies. Two Exmoor ponies—Sir Thomas and Dannington Court—were also involved in the breed’s development, as was a Hungarian stallion named Bonnie Charlie in the mid-19th century.
